Our Homemade Marshmallows, How it all began.
Our Homemade marshmallows were created by accident after I became frustrated at trying meringues and macarons both being annoying and stressful and ending up in the bin. But out of the sugary rubble I managed to create these moreish treats. I began to add, take away and reinvent various themes upon themes and tested them on friends and family with encouraging results.
We all know that Marshmallows are not the healthiest of snacks but as a treat and a drift down memory lane they do have some positives in that they have low levels of fat and cholesterol and low levels of salt, I remember the old timers used to say ‘a little of what you fancy won’t hurt’.
It’s fantastic to watch the faces of the people who have tasted our marshmallows and assume that all marshmallows are similar to those gooey lumps from our childhood memories. But they are captivated by the way they melt in your mouth serranading your tastebuds with a velvity flamboyance. Their unique texture has been described by many as ‘soft as a cloud’ and ‘so light its incredible’.
Handmade in small batches in our cosy cottage kitchen deep in the heart of the lake district these homemade marshmallows are truly scrumptious.
A bit about me
I have always loved cooking and baking, I remember standing on a chair in the kitchen next to my Mother when i was a child watching and ‘helping’ her to make cakes and pasties. Coming from Devon pasties were a big thing in our house!
Mum always followed recipes from the 34th edition of the BeRo Home recipes book published in 1974, the 1st edition was published in 1923! I still have that book today and i use it often for the old favourites and all the top treats in the book are marked with an star.
